Episode 12 of The Hank in Chains Show will feature the brand new, self-titled debut release from ex-North Carolina punk rocker Brian McGee and his band, The Hollow Speed. McGee’s new sound, which is part Gram Parsons, part Bruce Springsteen, and part The Clash, is one that will please any fan of rootsy American music. Mr. Ecks and I will review the album, which not only reflects McGee’s artistic roots, but gives listeners an ear-pleasing preview of the outstanding music that he will deliver to us in the future!

Episode 11 of The Hank in Chains Show is a celebration of the vast world of independent artists of all genres. While we usually mix these artists together with the legends of music, on Wednesday night, these wonderful unknown bands and artists stand alone. This episode will feature several outstanding songs, and Mr. Ecks and I will present an album of feature of psychedelic-blues rocker Willie Phoenix‘s lastest release, “Plastic Blues and Grooves”. Episode 10 of The Hank in Chains Show explores the world of underground country music… the styles of country music damned by corporate Nashville. The artists played on this episode aren’t CMT trash. Instead, regardless of the style of country they write and perform, their music still has soul… the same kind of country soul that Hank, Lefty, Cash, Merle, and Waylon possessed. They are also the artists that would perform as part of a revived Louisiana Hayride… the Opry’s old rival in the 40s and 50s. While no one knows if this revival will ever happen, this week’s episode of The Hank in Chains Show displays how strong such a show would be.

Since the late 1990s, guitarist Jack White and drummer Meg White have been gracing the world with their unique blend of rock and roll, fused with elements of blues, country, bluegrass, and several other genres. Eric Morningstar and I take a look at their music and discuss how their incredible sound is far more complex than their often minimalistic instrument arrangements.

Episode 8 of The Hank in Chains Show will feature the music of the incredible country band BR5-49. While getting their feet wet at Robert’s Western World in Nashville, BR5-49 emerged with as band that successfully blended classic country music and 1950s rock and roll, and has gained national critical acclaim as a result. Eric Morningstar joins me as we look at BR5-49‘s music, including their signature sound, their uncanny ability to keep traditional sounds alive, and the various members that have helped make the band a force in the underground country scene for over a decade.

Even though Jim Crow was still the law of the land in the south, Berry’s vocal and guitar talent helped him break through racial barriers, and he became a hero to white and black audiences alike as he established his legacy as one of the architects of rock and roll. Eric Morningstar joins me as we look at Berry’s music, what inspired his music, and his influence on other legendary artists that considered him a hero. Oh… we also have a special announcement from Mr. Ecks, commentary, and more outstanding music from across genres.

During only a six-year recording career, cut short tragically due to his death from tuberculosis. Rodgers still managed to write and record dozens of incredible songs in a style that combined folk, blues, jazz, and of course… the yodel. Eric Morningstar joins me as we discuss The Singing Brakeman’s music… songs that continue to inspire listeners eight decades after his recording career began.

Released on Sub Pop Records, “The Lucky Ones” finds the band achieving the essential sound that has defined them for two decades. The album was recorded in a period of just over three days, and it’s as raw and intense as any album Mudhoney has released since Superfuzz Bigmuff in the late 1980s. New co-host Mr. Ecks and I are your guides through this fantastic album.
