This week on the show I feature the music of Robert Cady. “A person who never makes mistakes, never makes anything”,  says Robert Cady, “I’ll go into this further sometime because I’m tired of explaining my whole shit to people. I’d rather just post it.  I had it in the ”about me” part of MySpace, but people said it wasn’t too ”MySpace friendly” so I took it down. Whenever I would tell the radio stations or internet radio shows people that wanted to play my music, they totally dug it and understood what drives me on this music. Rock ‘n roll isn’t supposed to be pretty; it’s just supposed to rock. And I’m not ashamed of shit.  And have no regrets. I’m over it. If I fucked up on the way, I fuckin learned. And I’ll take any knowledge I can gain any way I can get it.”

No bootleg set this time, instead my feature this week is the great Pumpjack! A 30 minute set of the best in Texas Oilfield music. Pumpjack is a gritty blend of old school ass-kickin’ rock n’ roll with a whiskey-soaked southern edge from Midland, Texas – Home of oilfields and honky-tonks; roughnecks and rednecks; backyard barbecues,.22s, and Baby Jessica. Wheres there’s beer, women, kindbud, and Bar-B-Q, you’ll find Pumpjack. Drinkin’ and makin’ friends!

“Texas Is Its Own Country’s Country”

This weeks bootleg set was recorded on 6/21/2009 by Mike Kerr at the Sportsman’s Tavern in Buffalo, NY featuring “Lucky Tubb and the Modern Day Troubadours“. Lucky Tubb, who currently is opening for Hank III & Assjack, is the great nephew of the legendary honky tonk singer, Ernest Tubb. Ernest was one of the biggest stars in country music history who amassed no fewer than 82 hits between 1944 and 1979. Poor ol’ Lucky is going to enjoy about 82 hits fewer than that, not because he’s bad, in fact he’s good, very good, but he suffers from the modern day syndrome of being too country. Let’s be honest, his Uncle Ernie would be laughed out of Nashville nowadays with his chiseled looks and un-CMT vocals delivery. Lucky Tubb is very much his own man. He’s lived a troublesome life and has his own story to tell. He’s toured as opening act for Dwight Yoakam, Ray Price and Hank III but on this listening, I think he’s gonna be the headliner pretty soon.

This week featuring a bootleg set from the James Gang recorded in their home town of Cleveland, Ohio @ the Beachland Ballroom on 6/24/2005.  Also I’m featuring two 4 song blocks of music. One set from the Texas Rifles and another set band from a New York band called Zo2. Zo2 is featured in their own 10 episode reality show on the Independent Film Channel.

This weeks featured Bootleg Artist is “The Georgia Satellites“. Roecorded on 10/6/1987 in Boston, Mass, this was an FM broadcast that is pretty good on quality.  Also Jared and Onemorename review the new album from “Mudcrutch“.  Mudcrutch is Tom Petty’s first band and they have finally reunited after almost 40 years.  Plus lots of other music throughout the 2 hour show.  Other artists included:  Eleven Hundred Springs, Derailers, Erik Koskenin Band, AC/DC, Bomshel, Texas Rifles, and the Flat Tires.

Plus, I have an interview with Brian Shine Abell of the TEXAS RIFLES about their DVD release party May 10th 2008 at the Cat Club in Hollywood, Ca. This week Jared Morningstar reviews the TEXAS RIFLES myspace music. PLUS lots more show!! Other artists include: Robin Trower, High School Caesar, the Knuckas, Chaos Theory, and Deadstring Brothers.

Also Jared Morningstar and myself review the new album from Justin Townes Earle called “The Good Life”.  Other artists include: Roy Fox and the Country Blues {< my dads band}, Jason Boland and the Stragglers, Webb Wilder, Pumpjack, Black Oak Arkansas, Carmen Le and the Tomorrow River Two, Dave Hole, and much MORE mixed up in between.
