Featuring a 1995 Omar and the Howlers recording from The Saxon Pub in Texas. Omar & the Howlers is a Texas based blues band, formed in Hattiesburg, Mississippi in 1973 by the blues guitarist and singer Omar Kent Dykes. Dykes grew up in McComb, Mississippi, began playing the guitar at age 7 and joined his first band at 12. In his 20s, he gathered a group of musicians who started calling themselves ‘the Howlers’. Three years later they moved to Austin, Texas. The band has regularly toured European countries.

Also featured is a 3 song block from: Chris Walker.

Seen by many as the band’s transition record between their Beatlemania pop days and their late 60s experimental rock and roll gold, it is a pure sonic pleasure. This week I am featuring a very cool 30 minute bootleg set of Great Mississippi/Texas Style Blues music from Omar and the Howlers. This show was recorded at Austin City Limits in 1988 (a GREAT Setlist!). Also I feature two 4 song blocks of music; One from ZZ Top and the other is Thin Lizzy.

One set from the Texas Rifles and another set band from a New York band called Zo2. Zo2 is featured in their own 10 episode reality show on the Independent Film Channel.

Episode 14 of The Hank in Chains Show will feature one of the greatest, and darkest, albums in the history of music: Bruce Springsteen‘s 1982 release “Nebraska”. Originally intended to be recorded as a full E-Street Band album, Springsteen instead decided to release the album as it was recorded: a collection of solo acoustic home recordings. A dark road trip across the economically depressed Great Plains, “Nebraska”, with its sometimes desperate characters, is a unique listening experience… especially with all of the lights turned off. Eric Morningstar and Jared Morningstar will examine this masterpiece of a recording, and discuss why it’s so memorable… even for people who don’t generally enjoy Springsteen‘s music.

This week’s show includes a fantastic sounding 1974 pre-FM/soundboard recording from the band “RUSH“.  The recording was the original broadcast from the radio; so the quality is VERY good!  We are also featuring songs from their first album as well as songs that didn’t make it onto the album. Vintage RUSH!!!

Also this week, Jared Morningstar and OneMoreName review the new Black Crowes album entitled Warpaint.  Three songs from the album will be played this week.

Other artists featured: Alvin Lee, Leslie West, Rebel, Ingham County Regulars, the Guess Who, Omar and the Howlers, Ted Nugent, Astronaut Academy, 18 Wheeler, Roy Fox and the Country Blues, and Bottle Rockets.
