The Hank in Chains Show Episode #0036 (05/26/2009)

The Hank in Chains Show
Episode #0036 (05/26/2009)

On Wednesday, May 26th, The Hank in Chains Show returns with a feature on Bob Dylan’s underrated 1978 record, “Street Legal”. On the heels of his mid-70s classic albums “Blood on the Tracks” and “Desire”, Dylan released a record that sported abstract lyrics and a big production sound similar to Springsteen’s “Born to Run”. Often unfairly criticized because of that production, it is often forgotten when Dylan fans discuss his greatest records. On this week’s show, we’ll give it the love it deserves.

Other music this week from: Stone Temple Pilots, The Black Keys, Hank Williams III, Jimi Hendrix, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, James Scott Bullard, Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band, Buddy Holly, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, James Hand, The Drive By Truckers, and Merle Haggard.

The Hank in Chains Show
Episode #0035 (03/03/2009)

On March 3rd, in addition to an independent-artist heavy lineup, The Hank in Chains Show will feature REM‘s underrated gem of an album, 1996’s “New Adventures in Hi-Fi”. The album was the last to feature the entire original lineup and was written mostly while the band was on a world tour. Unfortunately ignored by fans and the media, “New Adventures in Hi-Fi” is winner and is truly one of the band’s greatest records.

Other music this week from: Johnny Cash, The Beatles, Buffalo Killers, Wolfmother, The Fleshtones, The Avett Brothers, Thieves and Liars, Pearl Jam, Deer Tick, The Petty Bones, Dwight Yoakam, and Songs from the Road Band.

This time, we will be taking a look at a few different styles and themes of the sadly underrated late singer/songwriter who was far more than “Werewolves of London”. Make sure to be a part of the show’s new era and tune in!

The Hank in Chains Show Episode #0029 (12/03/2009)

The Hank in Chains Show
Episode #0029 (12/03/2009)

This week on The Hank in Chains Show, we will feature The Songs from the Road Band‘s new album, “As the Crow Flies”. While the term “underground supergroup” may be a musical oxymoron, in the case of the Songs from the Road Band, it makes perfect sense. Luckily for us, the hodgepodge of Asheville, North Carolina bluegrass all stars appears like it won’t stop recording or performing any time soon. “As the Crow Flies” is, in our opinion, the best bluegrass album of 2009. You won’t want to miss this week’s show!

Other music this week from: Bruce Springsteen, The Who, Whitey Morgan and the 78s, The Low Anthem, The Gutter Twins, Jerry Cantrell, Led Zeppelin, Neil Young, Those Poor Bastards, John Lennon, Joey Allcorn, and The Gin Palace Jesters.

The Hank in Chains Show Episode #0028 (11/25/2009)

The Hank in Chains Show
Episode #0028 (11/25/2009)

This week on The Hank in Chains Show, we celebrate Thanksgiving by featuring The Beatles 1965 classic record Rubber Soul. While it did not feature any of the Fab Four’s well-known hits, many critics and historians as not only one of the band’s best albums, but one of the greatest ever released by anyone in the history of music. Seen by many as the band’s transition record between their Beatlemania pop days and their late 60s experimental rock and roll gold, it is a pure sonic pleasure. Enjoy a musical feast, with all the trimmings, on Flapdaddy.com!

Other music this week from: Bob Dylan, Fats Domino, Jordan Zevon, Omar and the Howlers, James Scott Bullard, Hank Williams, Tom Petty, Little Richard, Nirvana, Robbie Fulks, The White Stripes, and Howlin Wolf.

The Hank in Chains Show Episode #0027 (11/18/2009)

The Hank in Chains Show
Episode #0027 (11/18/2009)

This week’s episode of The Hank in Chains Show features Alice in Chains‘ first new album in over 13 years, “Black Gives Way to Blue”. Marred by addiction and the eventual tragic death of founding lead vocalist Layne Staley of 2002, only a few years ago no one ever assumed we’d ever hear from Alice in Chains again. However, after a few special reunion shows, guitarist Jerry Cantrell, bassist Mike Inez, and drummer Sean Kinney got the itch to bring the band back. They recruited former Comes with the Fall vocalist William DuVall to recreate Alice in Chains’ outstanding harmony vocals. People doubted the band, especially DuVall, but “Black Gives Way to Blue” has proven the critics wrong in a big way.

Other music this week from: The Drive-By Truckers, Warren Zevon, Hank Williams III, The Reverend Horton Heat, Eleven Hundred Springs, Gram Parsons, George Harrison, The Kinks, Stone Temple Pilots, Songs from the Road Band, The Black Keys, and Jimi Hendrix.
