The Hank in Chains Show Episode #0032 (01/27/2010)

The Hank in Chains Show
Episode #0032 (01/27/2009)

This week on The Hank in Chains Show, we will feature Ray Wylie Hubbard‘s new album “A. Enlightenment B. Endarkenment”. While he has achieved much fame in the world of mainstream music, Hubbard, a Texas legend, has been writing outstanding songs for decades, and the new release lives up to his legacy. With a country sound fused with a heavy dose of blues and Hubbard’s as usual brilliant lyricism, “A. Enlightenment B. Endarkenment” is a must hear record.

Other music this week from: John Fogerty, Nirvana, James Hand, Dinosaur Jr., Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Clutch, Warren Zevon, The Dead Weather, The Reverend Horton Heat, Joey Allcorn, Bob Dylan, and Chris Scruggs.

“50 Thousand LIVE Unstoppable Watts”

This week features a full hour bootleg set from CLUTCH recorded 10/4/09 at the Austin City Limits Festival in Austin, TX. Clutch formed in 1990 and built a local following through constant live performances. The musical style of the band has migrated from heavy metal and hardcore punk to hard rock. Strong blues influences have also become prominent in the releases of the later years as vocalist/guitarist Neil Fallon notes: “We’ve been really conscious of the blues over the last couple of years, and you have to admit that the blues really is the source of all rock and roll. I think it’s important to go to the source to find that inspiration.

Artists on this weeks Bootleg Asylum Radio Show include: Holy Liars, Alice In Chains, Dave Hole, Snew, B.O.A. , Viking Skull, Deep Purple, Zane Campbell, ZZ Top, and more.

“Flowers Of Evil / Closing The Fillmore East”

This weeks Bootleg will be featuring a vintage 48 minute set from the band Mountain. The band was formed shortly after Leslie West, formerly of the Long Island R&B band The Vagrants, recorded a solo album titled Mountain with bassist and former Cream collaborator Felix Pappalardi. The album also featured former Remains drummer N.D. Smart. It was decided to name the band Mountain after Leslie West’s immense size. West’s raw vocals and melodic and bluesy guitar style and Pappalardi’s heavy and elegant bass lines were the elements of Mountain’s distinctive sound. Recorded on June 27th 1971, the Fillmore East was Bill Graham’s late 1960s – early 1970s rock palace in the East Village area of the Manhattan borough of New York City.  Also I feature 2 three song blocks of music; one from REBELS WITHOUT APPLAUSE and the other from VOODOO VEGAS.

Other artists on this weeks Bootleg Asylum Radio Show include: Zane Campbell, Uriah Heep, Derailers, Clutch, Black Oak Arkansas, Edgar Winter’s White Trash, Gin Palace Jesters, Black Sabbath, and more.

“Forward into the Past”

I’ll be going solo with my Bootleg Asylum Radio Show for awhile, just as it was in the past. When I started it 2 years ago at Flapdaddy the idea was very simple, just play the music I liked and hope others will find something they never got a chance to hear. And I would take requests from listeners so I would be able to get a chance to find music that I might not have tried without their input.

So this is my new/past format that will be my show for awhile.  The Bootleg Asylum Radio Show “All Request Friday Nights” @ Flapdaddy.com at 12am EST until 2am. Send your song request to http://www.myspace.com/thebootlegasylumradioshow message mail and I will play them on that Friday night; simple!!!

This weeks podcast features a Very High quality Popa Chubby bootleg audio set from his 1996 and 1998 Germany tours. Other artists include: Double Eagle Standard, Those Poor Bastards, Texas Hippie Coalition, Chevelle, Edens Kiss, Dio, Steppinwolf, Humble Pie, Clutch, and Roy Fox and the Country Blues.
